At Ojasi, we believe clothing is more than fabric — it's a bridge to memory, culture, and connection. Founded by designer Swetha Duggirala, Ojasi was born from a deep longing for authenticity in a world rushing toward fast fashion. What began as quiet moments on a balcony — reflecting on childhood memories filled with sarees, soft fabrics, and the loving artistry of her grandmother — soon transformed into a vision: to create a label that celebrates the richness of tradition and the beauty of handcrafted textiles. Join us on this journey, where every drape is a canvas, and every saree is a story waiting to be told.

Ojasi is a homegrown, statement-making slow fashion label — born to create modern, wearable art. Rooted
in purpose and expression, Ojasi stands at the intersection of heritage and contemporary artistry —
crafting hand-painted Pen Kalamkari sarees, digitally printed limitededition saris, and modern
street-style fashion made with intention and love for today’s fashion-forward women.
Our journey
begins
in a culturally rich and traditionally revered region of South India, where generations of artisans
continue the 3,000-year-old tradition of Pen Kalamkari — a rare, intricate art form that involves
freehand drawing on fabric using natural dyes and organic ingredients.

The art is brought to life using plant-based dyes — made from turmeric, indigo, pomegranate rind, and
other botanical elements — requiring multiple rounds of washing, sun drying, and
fixation. This entire process can take weeks, and results in oneof-a-kind sustainable sarees that carry
soul, slowness, and story.
Founded with a deep love for ancient craftsmanship and artful storytelling, Ojasi collaborates directly
with textile artisans to bring a modern, contemporary touch to the traditional saree.
The process remains deeply rooted in tradition involving up to 23 painstaking steps from fabric treating
to natural dye extraction, sketching and hand painting.

While rooted in craft, Ojasi doesn’t miss a chance to play — designing and printing the boldest, most
vibrant, abstract patterns on our canvas of choice. Our digitally printed sarees and versatile
streetwear pieces are where modern art meets mindful fashion — designed with intention, printed in small
batches, and made to make a difference.
This process helps us:
• Eliminate water-intensive dyeing
• Prevent overproduction and landfill waste
• Precisely place artwork, minimizing fabric excess
This synergy of conscious textile printing and original design makes every Ojasi piece an act of care —
for the Earth and for expression.

At Ojasi, we believe in freehand textile play — sometimes structured, other times wildly abstract. After
all, the label was born from an abstract seed. Hand embroidery becomes the perfect medium for this
expression, don’t you think? Using sustainable fabrics as our canvas, our artisans create modern
embroidered sarees that are expressive, raw and deeply personal. An art, that you can wear.
Our limited drops of hand-painted, hand-embroidered, digital printed sarees and oversized, contemporary
streetwear shirts are designed for the new-age Indian— napologetic, expressive, and deeply rooted. Every
piece at Ojasi is consciously made, reflecting our commitment to ethically sourced fabrics, fair wages,
and low-impact production.
